Three glass negatives record this panoramic view of Upper Saranac Lake taken from Saranac Inn, and the left section of the original panorama is not part of the collection. The inn was one of many resort hotels that drew summer visitors to the Adirondacks around 1900, when travelers came north by rail to fish, boat, and escape city heat. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sold scenic views of resorts and landscapes across the country, issued pictures like this as souvenirs and promotional material. Shot on 8 by 10 inch plates, the panorama shows how the lake was presented to tourists of the period.
