Here, a line of Graham Bros. trucks parks with the Washington Monument rising in the background, which makes this a picture of commercial vehicles set against the capital's most recognizable landmark. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio active in the early twentieth century, produced many such views of the city, often for clients who wanted to show their products in a familiar setting. The record dates the negative to between 1910 and 1925, a period when motor trucks were rapidly replacing horse-drawn wagons in city deliveries. The glass plate shows the streaks and blemishes typical of aging emulsion, which are worth noticing as part of the image's physical history.
