This text-only lithograph is a British recruiting poster from 1917, bearing the emblem of the National Service Industrial Army and marked as number B.23 in its series. Its call to "Enrol today & back up the men in the trenches" shows how the government tried to draw civilians into war work at a time when Britain's army and factories both needed more hands. By 1917 the National Service scheme asked men and women to commit to industrial labor, and posters like this one framed that work as direct support for soldiers at the front.
