Unlike most posters in this group, this one leaves a blank at the top for a school's name, and its printed instructions tell teachers to have pupils letter that name in by hand. The poster was built for a school-based enrollment drive, with the tally of enrolled children pasted in during a Washington's Birthday ceremony. It dates from 1919, when the American Red Cross was recruiting young members through schools. The Junior Red Cross had begun in American classrooms during World War I, and the poster turns that membership into a patriotic classroom ritual.
