The headline, "What can you do?", speaks to civilians who could not serve overseas. The answer is membership in the American Red Cross for two dollars, which included a subscription to the organization's magazine, and the poster notes that no field service was required. Printed in 1919, after the armistice ended fighting in Europe, it reflects the Red Cross's effort to keep its wartime membership base as the group turned toward health work at home, including nursing and public health. The bright chromolithograph color was typical of the period's posters, which were meant to catch the eye of passersby.
