A Packard sedan, its styling typical of the late 1930s and 1940s, is pictured against Pikes Peak in early summer, when snow still lingers on the upper slopes above Colorado Springs. The mountain's auto road, which climbs more than 14,000 feet to the summit, drew visitors who came to drive it as much as to see the view, so cars like this one were a familiar sight on its switchbacks. The picture comes from the Wittemann Collection, a body of mid-century views of the Colorado Springs area, and its date is recorded only as the 1940s.
