This photograph shows Hermann Göring with his young daughter Edda, who was born in 1938 to Göring and his second wife, Emmy Sonnemann. The Library of Congress holds it in Göring's personal photo album covering his activities from June through August 1939, where it sits in a section captioned "Edda's morning visit with her father." Göring was then Reich Minister of Aviation and commander of the Luftwaffe, and the album was assembled from his own photographic records. Because the date and caption come from older catalog cards that were later revised, the details are worth checking against the archive's notes. The picture is a useful example of how the regime's senior figures presented their private lives to the public.
