Nazareth Academy, photographed in 1913, was a Catholic school in Kansas at a time when the state's economy rested heavily on wheat, cattle, and the railroads that carried them to market. Church-run academies like this one gave young women schooling beyond the local grade school, and many students boarded there, coming in from farms and small towns across the county.
