The poster announces an exhibition of children's art, and its subject line places the show in Chicago during the 1930s. It was produced as a silkscreen under the Federal Art Project, the arm of the Works Progress Administration that employed artists during the Depression and turned out posters for public events, museums and community programs. Silkscreen was a relatively new and inexpensive method then, which let the Project print bold, flat-color designs in large runs. The poster is now held in the Library of Congress's WPA Poster Collection, where it documents both the period's graphic style and the government's support for art education and public exhibitions.
