In 1912, Cameron sat in Barron County in northwestern Wisconsin, a region where lumber companies had cut most of the white pine in the decades before. Logging towns were turning into farm communities, and dairying, grain, and the sale of cleared land to new settlers were becoming the main livelihoods. Railroad lines carried timber, milk, and farm goods out of the area and brought supplies and newcomers in, which shaped where the streets and business blocks grew. A bird's-eye view like this one would have shown residents a town they knew well, with its churches, schools, and main street laid out in a way that was still new to many of them.
