This color lithograph shows Machinery Hall, one of the largest buildings at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park, rendered in the warm light of a sunset. The exhibition marked the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and drew millions of visitors to the fairgrounds. Machinery Hall housed the industrial displays, including the great Corliss steam engine that powered the building's machinery. The print was issued in New York by the Brett Litho. Co. around 1875, when chromolithography was a popular way to sell views of the exhibition grounds to a national audience.
