Herbert Hoover appears here at a meeting with the National Federation of Temple Brotherhoods, a Jewish men's fraternal network, and the April 8, 1929 date places the sitting a few weeks after his inauguration as the 31st president. The record comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio whose glass negatives documented federal officials and public events in the early twentieth century. Visitors should note the streaks and blemishes that the catalogers flagged, which come from deterioration of the original glass plate coatings rather than from the photograph itself.
