Herbert Hoover poses with members of the Republican National Committee, according to the title on the negative sleeve, though the catalog gives a different date, July 9, 1929. Hoover took office as president in March 1929, so this moment falls early in his administration. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded officials and events of the period, made the negative, which Herbert A. French gave to the Library of Congress in 1947. Look for streaks and blemishes on the glass, which come from the original coating breaking down over time.
