Hoover is shown handing the Presidents Cup to Richard F. Hoyt on October 10, 1929, about seven months into his presidency. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded officials, public events and visitors to the capital in the early twentieth century, made the picture. Because it survives as a glass negative, it shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coatings. The title comes from information the studio wrote on the negative, so the names and occasion are worth checking against other sources.
