Few posters of the period urged carpooling as directly as this one, which asks Philadelphia commuters to ride together and save rubber for the war effort. Issued under the Philadelphia Metropolitan War Transportation Committee in 1941, it reflects a real worry: rubber supplies from Southeast Asia were at risk, and every tire kept on the road mattered. The Federal Art Project produced it in silkscreen as part of the Works Progress Administration's poster program, which made civic messages like this one visible across city streets. Its bold color and simple message show how wartime conservation was presented to ordinary workers as a shared duty.
