The Nike of Samothrace, the winged Hellenistic marble that stands in the Louvre in Paris rather than in New York, is named in the record as this poster's subject, linking its "Victory" concerts to an ancient symbol of triumph. The silkscreen was produced by the New York City branch of the Works Progress Administration's Art Project, sometime between 1936 and 1941, and it advertised free public concerts sponsored by the Juilliard School of Music, the New York Public Library, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Such posters were part of a broader effort during the Depression to bring music and art to ordinary New Yorkers at no cost.
