Philadelphia's Metropolitan War Transportation Committee, led by Mayor Bernard Samuel and administrator Robert A. Mitchell, commissioned this 1941 silkscreen poster to urge commuters to share rides. Its slogan, "Ride together, work together, save rubber for victory," reflects the strain on the nation's rubber supply as tensions rose overseas and tires grew scarce. The Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, produced the design, one of many wartime posters that turned everyday habits like carpooling into civic duty.
