Few home-front posters make the point as bluntly as this Philadelphia appeal, whose slogan, "Don't be a drip!", asks residents to stop leaks and save water. Artist Charlotte Angus made it as a silkscreen under the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, and the Philadelphia Council of Defense sponsored it. During the Second World War, wartime demands made everyday waste a civic concern, and small household drips became a matter of patriotic duty. The 1943 date stamp on the face suggests the message stayed in circulation well after its first year.
