Six uniformed policemen pose together on a porch in Dawson, the Yukon town that boomed during the Klondike gold rush of 1896 to 1899. Their tunics and campaign hats mark them as members of the Royal North-West Mounted Police, the force that kept order in the goldfields and was renamed the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1920. The print belongs to the Frank and Frances Carpenter Collection, and posed group portraits like this one show how the force wanted to present itself in a remote frontier town.
