The poster's title makes its argument: French women are plowing fields while their men serve, and it asks Canadians what they will do in return. Adapted from a photograph by Brown Bros., the color lithograph uses a scene of women working French farmland to urge Canadians to buy victory bonds. By 1915, many French men of farming age had been called to the front, so women, older men and children took on plowing, planting and harvesting to keep food production going. The design turns that rural labor into a direct appeal to civilians, presenting bond purchases as a way to share in the war effort.
