Main Street in Skagway, Alaska, leads toward the tracks of the White Pass and Yukon Route, the narrow-gauge railway that climbed the coastal mountains toward the Yukon. Skagway grew rapidly during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897 and 1898, when prospectors passed through on their way to the goldfields, and the railway, completed in 1900, carried supplies and travelers over White Pass toward Whitehorse. This stereograph was issued by the Keystone View Company, a prolific publisher of stereo cards, and its date of about 1926 places it well after the boom had faded. The caption data is unverified, so treat the date as approximate.
