Brüder, meldet euch zur Reichswehr" ("Brothers, enlist in the Reichswehr") makes its appeal directly in the title, addressing men as brothers rather than invoking the wartime duty to the nation found on many earlier posters. Printed in Munich in 1920 as a color lithograph from a design by F. Heubner, it dates from the early Weimar years, when the new army was limited to 100,000 men under the Treaty of Versailles and depended on volunteers. The poster is worth noticing for how it frames military service as comradeship, a language that drew on memories of the recent war.
