Grace Coolidge, the First Lady, stands with a raccoon on the White House grounds during the Easter egg roll of April 18, 1927. The Coolidges kept the animal as a pet, and its presence turned a familiar holiday event into a memorable press moment. The White House egg roll on the lawn was already a long-running spring tradition by the 1920s, drawing crowds of children and families each year. This glass negative comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio whose files preserve the everyday public life of the capital in the period.
