Here President Warren G. Harding and First Lady Florence Harding appear at the annual Easter egg roll on the White House grounds, a tradition that dates to 1878. The administration was barely a month old in late March 1921, so the event offered an early public look at the new president among the crowds of children. The photograph comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio whose glass negatives were given to the Library of Congress in 1947 by Herbert A. French. Viewers may notice streaks and blemishes, which result from deterioration in the original glass plate coatings.
