Unlike the other views on this board, this print takes its title from a literary figure rather than a fixed site: "The home of Evangeline" refers to the heroine of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1847 poem *Evangeline*, which tells of Acadian families separated during their expulsion from Nova Scotia in 1755. The record does not name the house shown, and later printmakers often attached the poem's title to scenes in Nova Scotia or Louisiana, where Acadian descendants settled. Dated to about 1887, the print reflects the late nineteenth-century popularity of Longfellow's poem, which drew many visitors and illustrators to places linked to its story.
