This etching shows the Cambridge, Massachusetts, house where Oliver Wendell Holmes was born in 1809, when it was the parsonage of his father, the Rev. Abiel Holmes, minister of the First Church. Holmes went on to become a physician, a professor at Harvard, and the author of *The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table*, and the house became closely linked with his early life and his reputation in New Englan. Published in New York by Benjamin F. Buck in 1910, some sixteen years after Holmes's death, the print was made as a tribute. Its remarque proof, a small sketch in the margin, includes a bust of Holmes, which is a detail collectors often look for.
