Titled "Start for home," this print was entered for copyright on February 1, 1895, and it survives among the Copyright Office's deposit records. The record links it to the firm Thomas & Wylie, though that name comes from an unverified shelflist card and should be treated as provisional. Scenes of departure were a familiar subject for late nineteenth-century American prints, which were inexpensive enough to hang in ordinary homes. Copyright deposits from these years show how commercial illustration reached everyday viewers.
