Old Faithful Inn, the great log hotel built near the Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park, is the setting here, and this view of its dining room gives a sense of the scale of the building's interior. The inn opened in 1904 and was designed by Robert Reamer for the Yellowstone Park Association, with its soaring lobby and timber framing meant to suit the rustic landscape. The Northern Pacific Railway, which ran the rail lines bringing tourists to the park, used material like this to promote its travel service. The elk visible in the scene reflect the wildlife that drew visitors to the park in the early twentieth century.
