Lake Louise, in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, is the subject here, and the title "a lazy day" suggests a calm afternoon on its still water rather than a dramatic mountain storm. The lake sits in a glacier-carved valley at the foot of steep peaks, and by the 1910s it had become a favored destination as the Canadian Pacific Railway promoted it to travelers from the United States and Europe. This print was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office around 1916, a sign that photographers were selling scenic views of such resorts to a wide public eager to see the mountains.
