A drawbridge and a group of foreign visitors give this drawing its particular subject. The catalog places it in Tokyo between 1850 and 1900, a period that began with the arrival of American naval ships in 1853 and the opening of Japan to Western trade, when Edo, renamed Tokyo in 1868, saw growing numbers of foreigners. The record credits Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-based ukiyo-e artist active from about 1764 to 1788, but it gives 1750 as the date, which fits neither the artist's working years nor the subject period. The attribution and dating should be checked against the source before they are relied on.
