Steamboats tied up along the shore make this view of the Antlers on Raquette Lake stand apart from the company's many views of Adirondack hotels. The Antlers was one of the resort hotels that drew summer visitors to the lake's wooded shores in the early 1900s, when rail lines and lake steamers brought city families into the region. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued photographic views for travelers and tourist markets, made this image as part of that trade. Its glass negatives, shot between 1905 and 1920, record the resort's casino and waterfront as they looked during the era's boom in lakeside travel.
