The record for this c1910 photographic print gives only the title "Blacksmith at work," and its caption card is unverified, so the smith and the shop are unidentified. A copyright notice in the name of C.H. Gilbert shows that the photographer claimed rights to the image, a common practice for commercial views of the period. Around 1910, blacksmithing still relied on a hot forge, an anvil, and hand tools, even as factory-made iron and the growing automobile trade were beginning to overtake the village smithy.
