Its title, "Worlds without end," is set against the cosmos and tied to General Dynamics, an aerospace contractor whose rocket work put it at the center of the early 1960s push into space. Swiss-born graphic designer Erik Nitsche, who worked largely in the United States, created the design, and this color lithograph was printed in Lausanne in 1962 as promotional material. It reflects the decade's optimism about spaceflight, a mood that companies often borrowed to present themselves as partners in humanity's journey outward.
