This gelatin silver print stretches about 30 inches across, a wide view of National League Park in Chicago during the Cubs' game against the New York Giants on August 30, 1908. Panoramic views like this were a specialty of the Geo. R. Lawrence Company, a Chicago firm that photographed city scenes and events, and the print was entered for copyright that September. In 1908 the Cubs were headed for both the pennant and the World Series, and the Giants were among their toughest rivals, so the ballpark here offers a snapshot of the sport in its early golden age.
