A glass negative labeled "A.B. Houghton leaving W.H." records a departure, most likely from the White House, in March 1925, about a week after Calvin Coolidge's inauguration as president. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that photographed officials, visitors and street scenes in the capital during the 1910s and 1920s, made the plate, and the Library of Congress later received the collection as a gift. The title comes from unverified notes on the negative sleeve, and the date is borrowed from a related negative. The streaks and blemishes visible on the glass result from the natural deterioration of its original coating.
