A poster for *Modern Romance*, the 1981 comedy that Albert Brooks wrote, directed, and starred in, puts the film's two leads, Brooks and Kathryn Harrold, at the center of its design. The movie follows a Los Angeles film editor who cannot let go of his former girlfriend, and its anxious, self-deprecating take on dating was a departure from the broader comedies of its day. Brooks, who came up through stand-up and short films, built the picture around his own sharp, neurotic persona. The poster's bold color and simple layout reflect the marketing style common for mid-budget comedies of the early 1980s.
