Number 447 in the 1871 *Scenery of the Yellowstone* series, this stereograph card shows the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, with its striped and colored rock walls cut by the river. The publisher, William I. Marshall, sold such cards so parlor viewers could see distant scenery in three dimensions. Photographs of the region from the 1871 Hayden Geological Survey helped persuade Congress to set aside Yellowstone as the first national park in 1872. The library's catalog files the card under Colorado, though the canyon lies in northwestern Wyoming.
