Rather than the station's monumental front, this view turns to the switch yards that fed Union Station in Washington, D.C., where tracks from several railroads came together. The station opened in 1907 to a Beaux-Arts design by Daniel Burnham, consolidating train service that had been spread across older depots. Made by the Detroit Publishing Company between 1907 and 1910, this 8 by 10 inch glass negative records the working side of that effort, with rails, switches and rolling stock laid out in detail.
