Few pictures on this board place Herbert Hoover among young people quite like this one, which pairs him with Boy Scouts. Hoover was a longtime supporter of scouting, and the Boy Scouts of America grew considerably during the years he served as Commerce Secretary and then as president. The negative comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm that recorded politics and public life in the early twentieth century, and the title was written by the company rather than independently confirmed. Look for the streaks and speckling on the glass, which come from age in the original coating rather than anything in the scene.
