The Bridge of Spain crossed the Pasig River in Manila, and the caption presents it as a link between the old city and the new. The walled colonial center of Intramuros stood on one side, while the districts beyond the river belonged to the growing commercial city. Stereo cards like this one, published by Strohmeyer & Wyman in New York and copyrighted by Underwood & Underwood, were meant to be viewed through a stereoscope at home, and they brought American audiences images of distant places around the time the United States took control of the Philippines. The date is approximate, and the caption details have not been independently verified.
