This stereograph shows the San Sebastian Church in Manila, a Gothic Revival building notable for being built almost entirely of steel, with its prefabricated parts reportedly shipped from Europe and assembled on site in the early 1890s. Stereo views like this one, issued by the Universal Photo Art Co. under C.H. Graves, were popular in the United States in the early 1900s, a period when the Philippines had recently come under American control. The card's date of about 1902 is taken from an unverified caption, so it is best read as approximate.
