A bamboo hut stands in the foreground of this stereograph, with the Bridge of Spain crossing the Pasig River in Manila beyond it. The bridge dates back to the Spanish colonial era and linked the walled city of Intramuros with the districts to the north. The card is dated to about 1899, when the United States was taking control of the islands after the Spanish-American War, and Keystone View Company stereographs like this one carried scenes of distant places into American homes.
