Few buildings in Boston sit as closely together as Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, and this stereograph frames both in one elevated view of the downtown waterfront. Faneuil Hall dates to 1742, a gift from merchant Peter Faneuil, and it became known as the "Cradle of Liberty" for the colonial-era town meetings held there. Quincy Market, built in the 1820s and named for Mayor Josiah Quincy, is a long granite hall that remained a busy center for trade into the early 1900s. Keystone View Company issued cards like this one for home stereoscope viewers, so the scene was meant to be seen in three dimensions.
