Printed in Philadelphia in 1870 by the Ledger Steam Job Print shop at Sixth and Chestnut Streets, this color lithograph advertises the British Blonde Burlesque Troupe, whose name echoes the "British Blondes" that Lydia Thompson's company had brought to American stages since 1868. The poster was copyrighted that year by Sheridan Corbyn, and its caption, "Parisian sauce," hints at the racy, satirical comedy the troupe offered. Posters like this one were cheap, bold advertisements meant to be pasted on walls and fences, and they show how the stage was marketed to a broad public in the years after the Civil War.
