Few family portraits from the early 1890s carry as much political interest as this one, which records President Grover Cleveland with his family. The record dates it to about February 27, 1893, just days before his second inauguration on March 4, making him the first president to serve two nonconsecutive terms. Cleveland had lost the 1888 election, and his family's private life during those years, including the birth of daughter Ruth in 1891, drew close press attention. The date and the associated publisher name come from an unverified shelflist card, so treat them as approximate.
