Tucked into the vast interior of Machinery Hall, this stereograph shows the Russian section, one of many national displays at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. Machinery Hall was among the largest structures built for the fair, and its aisles held engines, tools, and manufactured goods from around the world, grouped by country. Stereo cards like this one, issued by the Centennial Photographic Company, let viewers at home see the exhibits in three dimensions through a stereoscope, carrying the fair's crowded displays into parlors long after the visitors had gone home.
