Artillery dress uniform from the years 1877 to 1883 is the subject here, recorded on a glass negative that the National Photo Company made sometime between 1908 and 1919. The Washington, D.C., studio was a commercial firm, so the uniform was already two or three decades old when it was photographed. Artillery branch was identified by red trim on the dark blue coats of the period, a detail worth noticing. Faint streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural deterioration of the original coating.
