Titled for its final load, this lithograph captures the moment the season's work is finished. Published by Currier & Ives in New York, it comes from a firm that produced large numbers of rural American scenes, and this copy was colored by hand, a process that gave each impression slightly different tints. The gallery groups it under Thanksgiving because the harvest home celebrations of the 19th century helped shape the holiday, which Sarah Josepha Hale campaigned to make national and Abraham Lincoln proclaimed in 1863.
