Few television characters of the early 1950s were as recognizable as Howdy Doody, the freckle-faced puppet who starred in the NBC children's program that bore his name. Here he wears a Pilgrim costume, made for appearances in Thanksgiving Day parades, when television personalities were a regular part of holiday processions. The 1951 print shows how a studio character could move from the television screen into the public streets of a national holiday.
