A Hearty Thanksgiving postcard shows a pilgrim figure beside a turkey, a pairing that became a staple of American holiday imagery in the early twentieth century. Postcards like this one were mailed in large numbers around the holiday, and their cheerful, stylized art helped fix the image of a harvest feast in the public mind. The pilgrim-and-turkey motif reflects a popular retelling of the 1621 Plymouth harvest gathering, which was not called "Thanksgiving" at the time and was not documented with turkey as its centerpiece. Worth noticing is how the card blends historical costume with decorative holiday cheer, showing how a loosely remembered past was turned into seasonal sentiment.
